Project

NJ Department of Transportation – Ewing Headquarters

The key aspect of the project was the decentralization of a central steam plant that was well past it’s useful life.  DCO installed high-efficiency condensing boilers in each building, thereby eliminating the high maintenance costs associated with the aging central plant and infrastructure. One challenge was the project needed to bring the ventilation systems in the garages up to the current code. The addition of local control to the infrared heaters in the high bay garages helped improve occupant comfort. To improve indoor air quality, DCO increased natural ventilation to 1 CFM/sq. ft. with high-efficiency AHUs and added destratification fans. DCO used photo metrics to identify exterior areas with insufficient lighting and upgraded the lighting to LEDs. The higher color rendering index (CRI) of the new lamps improved the visibility of existing security cameras and safety campuswide.
